Flashback a few years ago. There I am curled up on the sofa, humoring my husband by watching The Dance because he'd heard great things about the audio clarity of this concert dvd from Fleetwood Mac's 1997 reunion tour. Yeah, Fleetwood Mac sounds good. Yeah, their live performance gives new energy to hits I've heard a million times. Nice. I take a sip of wine. And then Stevie Nicks starts to sing Silver Springs.
I perk up. I've never heard this tune before. Gorgeous lyrics, mesmerizing Stevie, as always.
Then about midway through the song she turns and gives Lindsey Buckingham a look. The kind of look you give an ex-boyfriend who you very publicly loved and lost and wrote about in so many famous songs most people probably thought you'd said everything you'd ever wanted to say about it. Except that unless they checked the B-side of Go Your Own Way they never heard this particular song (and boy does its exclusion from the 1977 Rumours album tick you off still).
And since you're Stevie Nicks you follow up that look with a blistering performance that nearly sets the stage aflame.
And you leave that girl on the sofa sputtering on her wine and clicking the rewind button on her dvd player about a dozen times before she heads to iTunes to download her new favorite song.
